翻越「龍過脈」的窄軌舊線
在窄軌的臺東線鐵路時期,列車抵達臺東卑南,必須攀爬一段崎嶇的山路;直到臺東線鐵路拓寬工程,在這個路段開鑿隧道進行截彎取直之後,列車才免除這一段氣喘吁吁的爬山過程。過去,這條窄軌舊線翻越「龍過脈」,經過「檳榔站」、「初鹿站」,沿著鹿野溪,轉入「嘉豐(稻葉)站」再下「鹿野站」。目前除了「檳榔站」的車站建築還在外,「初鹿」和「嘉豐(稻葉)站」都在臺東線鐵路拓寬改線之後,於田野間消失了。
